Someone Else’s Songs

From Mirrors And Changes

Music and lyrics © 1974 Bob Zentz

(in E – capo 2)

1.  I could sing you songs into the night  (G-A-Bm)
Stories that I’ve told so long ago  (G-A-Bm)
Pictures of the feelings that I’ve shared with my guitar   (G-A-D-D/C#-Bm)
She learned to cry for me  (A-A7)

Now they seem like someone else’s songs  (D-D/C#-Bm-Bm7-G)

You know they seem like someone else’s sorrows  (D-D/C#-Bm-A)

They seem like the dreams of a me that never was  (G-A-D-D/C#-Bm)

Lord, give me a song to face tomorrow  (G-A)

2.  Some folks just keep diaries of the way they used to be

Scrapbooks of the places that they’ve been

I just sing a song, and that song’s the closest thing I know

To the me that I was then  (G-A)

But they seem like someone else’s songs

     Sometimes they’re someone else’s sorrows

They seem like the dreams of a me that never was

Lord, give me a song to face tomorrow

3.  Now it’s been a while since I made up a song

Though I still keep singing those I wrote some time ago

And I’ve wondered why I wrote ‘em but they always let me know

What made ‘em come to me

Then I know they’re no one else’s songs

I feel sure they’re no one else’s sorrows

I guess they’re just the me in the mirror that I see

I’ll feel better when I sing this song tomorrow

Sometimes they feel like someone else’s songs  (D-D/C#-Bm-G-D)
