The Rhyming Muse

~POETRY set to MUSIC~

an “INFORMANCE” with BOB ZENTZ

“We are the Music Makers...We are the dreamers of dreams...”

Arthur William O’Shaughnessy, Irish poet

The RHYMING MUSE features the works of major, minor and anonymous POETS of the English-speaking world, with musical settings by a number of contemporary songwriters (including the presenter), brought to life in dynamic performances on a variety of traditional stringed and free-reed instruments, appropriately suited in style and instrumentation to each piece.

From classics like Alfred Noyes’ “The Highwayman,” Rudyard Kipling’s “Gunga Din,” and Robert Service's "Ballad of Soulful Sam," to the works of lesser-known poets such as Burt Franklin Jenness, Helen Gray Cone, and C. Fox Smith, we explore the soul of poet and poem alike, to discover the kinship between the ballad and the lyric poem.

These poem-songs are performed with informative introductions that recall the setting, inspiration and historical basis for the work’s origin, while giving insight into the life and times of the poets themselves.

Bob Zentz performs “The Rhyming Muse” with a sense of drama, history, humanity and humor, bringing the words to life, lifting them off the page, and singing them from the inside out!

Bob is a teacher, singer, multi-instrumentalist, independent scholar, poet, recording artist and lover of the written word, as well as the song that tells a story.

“The Rhyming Muse” is perfect for libraries, museums, schools and bookstores and wherever folk who read might gather!
